22. Venice Beach

| The Lido (once again, the original) may have lost some of its exclusivity over the years, but you still need serious dough to stay in some of its hotels, or indeed lounge on many of its beaches. In the summer the place is swinging with beatiful people, off-season it's a cheap accommodation option with some useful everyday shopping near the vaporetti station. The trip from downtown Venice takes 20 minutes or so. Cars are permitted here and arrive by mainland ferry, which spoils it a bit as a Venice Experience. |
