We're only here for the craic...

| As I said at the start of this tour, Ireland has a lot going for it, but you won't find much in Dublin. If you're looking for somewhere to go with a bunch of mates for a drunken weekend and you're put off Glasgow or Hamburg because you've heard they don't speak English (and news of Reykjavik, Berlin or Barcelona hasn't reached you yet) this would fit the bill. Late bars coupled with a culture that not only tolerates heavy drinking but seems to encourage it mean that you can indulge your boozy boorishness to your heart's content. Fall over, fight, shout, urinate or vomit without hindrance. If this isn't your iidea of fun, you may want to steer clear of Temple Bar or many of the central Dublin hotels that cater for large groups, and usually have late-night discos. Visit Dublin for a pleasant day trip, but leave at night and don't let it put you off the rest of Ireland. |

| "Dublin tourism these days seems targeted at groups of yobs attracted by the liberal attitude to drunkenness. The city doesn't represent the rest of Ireland and is best visited for a day, whilst staying elsewhere. However, it does have good shopping facilities which are sometimes hard to find in Ireland." |
