| This original school building, in Mock-Gothic style to match the church and adjacent to the last builing pictured, is lucky to have survived. Helped by its location between the road and a steep drop, it had been derelict for many years before both its worth and the funds to preserve it were realised. Very little inside remains, but the solid construction and virtual vandal-free environment has been its saviour. Destined to become one of the inevitable clutch of 'heritage centres' rising around Blaenavon, the extant schoolyard and playground, with views changed so little since they were filled with the first children, leave a powerful impression on the visitor of any age. It is modest buildings like this, coupled with a little knowledge, that really sum up the Blaenafon experience. |
