You can't go wrong with an Ayuntamiento, so here's another. As I was photographing this, I noticed a policeman taking an unhealthy interest in me, so pretended I hadn't seen him and tried to slope off. From the look of him, I was expecting to be told it was against the law to photograph government buildings, something that has happened to me before. Indeed, he caught up with me and, speaking no English, was obviously trying to make some point about my camera. The old trick of feigning complete ignorance of the language and walking away backwards didn't seem to be working as he was getting more agitated, and when he reached into his pocket and pulled out some official form, I thought the game was up. However, rather than giving me a ticket it was a town map, on which he proceeded to mark areas of particular photogenic appeal. He turned out to be a keen photographer himself and had been attracted by the classic Pentax MX I was using. How we laughed when I explained I thought he was about to arrest me! When I say explained, I'm not sure he understood anything I said and was probably laughing at my attempts at Spanish. |
