8. San Nicolas de Bari

san nicolas de bari

A short walk through the park will bring you back to the top of the ascensor, elevator or lift pictured above to the left and behind the church. Ring the bell and for a few coins the attendant will pick you up and deposit you back at ground level. He'll also have a vigorous conversation with you, whether or not you speak much Spanish or indeed understand a word he says. A few nods and shrugs and an occasional 'si' or 'no', depending on his expression, will do the trick. It must be a very lonely job. The church itself has nautical connections and is built on the site of an ancient monestary. Don't rely on the clock as it is only right twice a day.
